About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our trauma hospital team at the Arizona Humane Society. As a key member of our medical team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the well-being of animals in our shelter.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians in the treatment of animals and independently evaluate animals to determine adoptability.
  • Work alongside the team to ensure high levels of patient care and collaborate with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.
  • Perform a variety of tasks, including phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology, and safe and humane animal handling.
  • Be proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
  • Use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer, and be able to learn other software programs as necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program or 2 years of experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic
  • Must be able to assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' medical services, including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy, and the administration of prescribed medications.
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology, and perform safe and humane animal handling.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.
