Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Naturalist to join our team at Potomac Overlook Regional Park. As a Naturalist, you will be responsible for providing interpretive programs, animal care, and educational activities for visitors of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead educational programs for school and public groups, focusing on natural history, conservation, and environmental education.
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of exhibits, programs, and other interpretive materials.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering visitor inquiries and responding to phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Nature Center and surrounding grounds.
  • Perform manual labor, including equipment operation, litter collection, and facility maintenance.
  • Work in all weather conditions and adapt to changing program needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a natural resource field or related field.
  • At least two years of experience in a related field, preferably in a park or conservation setting.
  • Strong knowledge of biology, ecology, and natural history, with a focus on Northern Virginia flora and fauna.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, work in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing program needs.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license and certification in CPR and first aid.
