Job Description

As a Conservation Program Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts. This position involves working collaboratively with various partners to enhance the implementation of conservation initiatives.

Position Overview:
  • This is a full-time role with a commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • The starting compensation is $24.04 per hour, equating to an annual salary of approximately $50,000.
  • Comprehensive benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid federal holidays, vacation, and sick leave.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert programmatic and biological technical assistance to private landowners, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations regarding USDA conservation programs.
  • Collaborate closely with county USDA staff to ensure effective implementation of conservation strategies on private lands, maximizing benefits for soil, water, and wildlife.
  • Encourage private landowners to engage in USDA conservation programs and other related initiatives.
  • Assist landowners with the necessary applications, contracts, mapping, and documentation for program participation.
  • Conduct site assessments to determine eligibility for conservation programs.
  • Support monitoring efforts for lands enrolled in conservation programs to optimize conservation outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with landowners and partner agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage diverse clientele while demonstrating flexibility.
  • Knowledge of agriculture, grassland management, wildlife, and wetlands, with the ability to apply various habitat management tools.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local conservation programs, particularly those related to agriculture.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a valid driver's license are required; personal vehicle use may be necessary.
  • Capability to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work in field conditions and travel as needed.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture, natural resources, wildlife management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant experience and training that demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
