Job Summary

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will apply respiratory care procedures to diagnose and treat patients in both general and critical care areas, working under the supervision of a supervisor or charge therapist. Your primary responsibility will be to plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic and advanced respiratory care to patients in critical care settings, evaluating patient response to therapy and performing patient assessments to recommend therapeutic goals and therapies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care activities, providing evaluation and communication of respiratory care plans.
  • Demonstrate competency in providing respiratory care to patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Administer respiratory care procedures safely and effectively, ensuring the proper functioning of all respiratory care equipment.
  • Assist in the education and training of students and staff, serving as a clinical instructor when applicable.
  • Rotate to other hospitals to perform routine respiratory care, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the department.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge: You must possess and demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care for patients of all ages.

Specifically, you must be able to:

  • Obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development.
  • Understand the range of treatment needed by patients.

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

Common Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and document all applicable records, demonstrating positive customer service and co-worker relationships.
  • Comply with the company's attendance policy and participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Perform work in a cost-effective manner, adhering to departmental pay practices and scheduling policies.
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, contributing to the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.
Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
  • Substitution: Associate's Degree with emphasis in Polysomnography may substitute for Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Credentials
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist Registered (RRT).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
Work Schedule and Location

Days, 56 hours per pay period, Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV.
