Job Title: Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

Alameda Health System is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Newark Wellness Center. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to our diverse patient population.

Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with our healthcare team to assess, evaluate, and manage the health care needs of patients. You will perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, provide health care services, and perform clinical procedures that require possession of advanced knowledge and skills and the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Consults with physicians as necessary regarding health status of patients; refers complex cases to appropriate resources.
  • Orders and/or performs laboratory and screening tests in accordance with approved protocol.
  • Performs history and complete physical examinations of patients either in a general medical setting or within the context of specialty clinics to which assigned; assesses the clinical status of patients; establishes and maintains health records.
  • Plans a program of care, seeking consultation with physicians, other professional staff, patients, and families as needed or as required.
  • Provides and evaluates patient care according to protocols and quality assurance program criteria.
  • Teaches patients, families, and staff; provides counseling services related to promoting good health practices.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience which would provide the knowledge and skill necessary for successful performance as a Mid-Level Practitioner.
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program that conforms to the Board of Registered Nursing standards; graduate of an accredited Nursing program required; Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possession of a current Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing AND Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); OR Certification by the National Certification Corporation as a Womens Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year in area of specialty (i.e., Cardiology, Neurology, G.I, Rheumatology, Orthopedics, Hematology, etc.), PG Residency of ED experience or post-graduate training in area of responsibility.
  • ACLS, ATLS, SART (dependent on area of specialty)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification - AHA American Heart Association (Required for Emergency Department or if overseeing or providing pediatric care on a regular basis)
