Job Description

Ensign-Bickford Industries is seeking a highly skilled Product Development Engineer to join our team in the Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company business unit. As a global leader in mission-critical hardware and systems solutions, we are looking for an experienced professional to lead the development of new products into production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the evaluation of designs for manufacturability and develop manufacturing documentation, including manufacturing instructions, routings, process specifications, and tooling.
  • Provide technical leadership on internal and external projects, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Solve manufacturing problems, investigate process failures, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure production viability of new designs and creation of required documentation.
  • Interface with production personnel, including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.
  • Implement Lean methodologies, including standard work, point-of-use tooling, material presentation, and process improvements.
  • Develop automated test fixtures and assembly tools.
  • Design manufacturing cell layouts, including tooling, machinery, and equipment.
  • Conduct Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ensure technical compliance and risk assessment.
  • Create standard work and contribute to manufacturing cell planning.
  • Track status and ensure completion of operations milestones and tasks for production programs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering.
  • Related engineering experience in multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of space vehicle mechanisms and systems.
  • CAD, 3D modeling, assembly creation, drawings, and GD&T.
  • Design of tooling and fixtures.
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
  • Formal problem analysis and resolution.
  • Project management skills with the ability to document, plan, and execute programs.
  • Working with aerospace products and processes.
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Enterprise/Manufacturing Resource Planning (ERP/MRP) systems.
  • MS Office - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiar with and able to work in MS Project.

Experience Levels:

  • PE I - 0-2 years exp - S10 - Performing tasks to learn the process.
  • PE II - 2-4 years exp - S11 - Working the process with support.
  • PE III - 4-6 years exp - S12 - Working the process independently.
  • Senior PE - 6+ years exp - S13 - Teaching the process.
