About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Albuquerque, NM. As a key member of our Directed Energy team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative mechanical systems for the United States Air Force and other customers.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Create 3D solid models of complex hardware and systems, conducting thorough mechanical analysis to ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Develop mechanical designs that meet established company policies, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with government, Leidos, and vendor machine shops to procure parts and components.
  • Contribute to project success by actively interfacing with the Leidos team and customers to develop creative and robust mechanical designs.
  • Resolve manufacturing and testing issues, providing innovative mechanical design and fabrication ideas.
  • Provide technical direction to internal engineering disciplines and vendors.
  • Develop and present reports and technical briefs communicating complex technical concepts during engineering meetings and program reviews.

Your Qualifications

  • BSME or MSME degree with 12-15+ years of relevant experience or MSME with 10 years of prior experience.
  • US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and communicate with machinists, technicians, engineers, and scientists.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Mentors and coaches other technical staff.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and SolidWorks.

About Our Team

Our Directed Energy team consists of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators, and support staff with backgrounds in advanced physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is between $126,100 and $227,950, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, Leidos offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
