Electrical Systems Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrician I to join our Facilities Management Services (FMS) Utilities Maintenance team at Rochester Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including power distribution and lighting control systems, in our academic and residence hall buildings.
The Electrician I will work closely with our team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our electrical systems, providing immediate response to electrical-related emergencies and performing corrective action as needed. Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as a mentor and provide training and guidance to other staff members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including power distribution and lighting control systems
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Respond to electrical-related emergencies and perform corrective action as needed
- Train and mentor other staff members on electrical systems and procedures
- Collaborate with the FMS team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our facilities
Requirements:
- City of Rochester Master Electricians License or equivalent
- 3 years' experience in electrical distribution systems, including low voltage control circuits, 110 through 480 volt single and three phase systems, and medium voltage systems (15,000 volt class)
- Working knowledge of electrical meters and test equipment, blueprint and schematic reading, National Electrical Code, and NFPA 70E
- Able to work from step ladders up to 12 feet tall, scaffolds, and electric man-lifts up to 40 feet
- Able to distinguish colors of electrical wire insulation and determine wire sizes
- Must be experienced with using a computer to access the Work Order system, email, Microsoft word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and review electrical drawings in AutoCAD format
