Job Summary:

The Speech Therapist will conduct assessments and reassessments of rehabilitation needs and potential, planning, implementing, and supervising therapeutic programs to improve or restore communicative and swallowing abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments and reassessments of patients' communication and swallowing disorders
  • Plan, implement, and supervise individualized therapeutic programs
  • Coordinate with the Rehab Director and other professionals to ensure integration of the therapeutic program in the plan of care
  • Guide and teach patients in techniques, exercises, or precautions to improve their ability to swallow and communicate
  • Observe, record, and report patients' reactions to treatment and any changes in their condition or treatment
  • Document the extent of patients' involvement in decision-making affecting their care
  • Instruct other agency personnel and patients' family members in activities of speech therapy
  • Participate in patient case conferences to coordinate the plan of care and promote positive therapeutic outcomes
  • Participate in continuous assessment and evaluation of the agency
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology (or equivalent) from a University program accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing-Association
  • Current licensure by the state of Texas to practice as a Speech-Language-Pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology by the American Speech Language Hearing Association
  • One (1) year experience in Speech Language Pathology in a home health setting (preferred)
Work Environment:

The Speech Therapist will work in a fast-paced rehabilitation setting, adapting to client status and needs as directed. Schedule changes daily due to client condition and needs, new clients, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Sight and hearing sufficient to comprehend written and verbal communication, ability to work a minimum of eight (8) hours per day while driving, standing, sitting, and completing reports and documentation.

Service Excellence:

Personal/Professional Development:

The Speech Therapist will maintain personal health status requirements, professional licensure/certification, and current personnel file information. They will set their own development challenges, volunteer to learn, and assist with orientation of new personnel.
