Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Network Administrator to join our team at CTtransit. This is a full-time position that will be responsible for providing a full range of support for all CTtransit systems, including maintenance of computer hardware and software, application programming development, and automation of standard desktop software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain network environment, including administration and maintenance of physical and virtual servers.
  • Monitor all servers and maintain routine schedule of updates, security patches, and nightly backups.
  • Install and support hardware peripherals, operating systems software, and application software for user workstations, laptops, and tablets.
  • Establish system and network parameters to bring about optimal network performance and monitor network equipment resources.
  • Review, monitor, and control all network activities and resource monitoring.
  • Manage daily operations and assist in recommending future infrastructure upgrades.
  • Maintain an inventory of network equipment.
  • Provide network and data security and management of network server processes.
  • Assist in establishing network documentation, procedures, and standards for the orderly flow of data throughout CTtransit's networks.
  • May serve as a vendor liaison for the LAN/WAN and server units to resolve problems related to hardware and/or software.
  • Coordinate with all contractors and service/equipment providers.
  • Assist in planning for growth of network resources by identifying any network bottlenecks, monitoring bandwidth utilization, and monitoring server resource utilization.
  • Keep informed on new developments in the fields of server virtualization, Azure Hyper V, network, and cybersecurity.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence as assigned.
  • Assist other departments and divisions as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries for information from employees, senior leadership, and/or external partners as needed.
  • Act as liaison for the division with company Finance, Human Resources, and Pension administrators.
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.
  • Attend in-service training, seminars, or other opportunities for professional development as made available by CTtransit.
  • Provide training for CTtransit personnel as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, training, etc.
  • Have thorough working knowledge of CTtransit policies and procedures.
  • Manage the coaching, training, discipline, and/or commendations for lower-level I.T. personnel as needed across the organization.
  • Assist in the interview and selection process for other technology-related positions as needed across the organization.
Requirements
  • Minimum possession of a bachelor's degree or technical education certifications in Computer Science, Network Administration, Cyber Security, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working in a union environment, interviewing, hiring, training, employee development, and employee discipline.
  • Experience in network administration, network security, server administration, and end-user support.
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Server, Windows 11 Pro, M365, MS Azure, MS Entra, and desktop applications.
  • Experience with network firewall configuration and management, particularly with Fortinet, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer products and software.
  • Fundamental understanding of network switches and routers, including IPSEC tunneling, VLAN configuration, firewall log analysis, and VPN remote access troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, manage multiple employees, and conduct training when necessary.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of supervision, knowledge of progressive discipline processes, and demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, build commitment to goals, offer instruction, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Individuals may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
  • Basic knowledge or understanding of software programs (office suite) and public transportation operations software (CAD/AVL).
  • The ability to quickly learn internal software programs.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in data gathering and analysis in preparation of reports as needed.
  • The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
