The Phlebotomist I is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a professional medical environment. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities- Collect patient specimens using various techniques, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, and throat swabs.
- Communicate with patients and family members to explain procedures and instructions.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely specimen collection.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory compliance and safety.
- Develop skills in patient registration, code response teams, training and mentoring, specimen processing, and special projects.
- Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers.
- Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs.
- Flexibility to work in other facilities, as needed.
- Adherence to all personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
- Six months of phlebotomy experience or phlebotomy training as approved by Manager/Supervisor.
- High School diploma or equivalent in compliance with CLIA regulations.
- Certificate of completion from phlebotomy school or program.
- Willingness to work in a team environment under stressful situations.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Basic computer skills.
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours a week with varying start times between 7am and 6pm. The work environment is fast-paced and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
