Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory tests, evaluating results, and monitoring laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and evaluate laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols.
  • Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness.
  • Follow prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
  • Perform and document calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
  • Recognize indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and make basic corrections.
  • Provide technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
  • Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all accrediting agency standards and supporting CAP Regulatory requirements.
  • Perform specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
  • Provide direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments during high acuity patient events.
Requirements
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT) needs to be obtained within 1 year.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician or related field.
  • No experience required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in and out of the workplace.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and may be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and/or infectious agents. They will also be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
