Are you passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products? Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is seeking a skilled Grocery Manager to lead our Grocery Department. As a Grocery Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Grocery Department, including staff, sales, margin, and labor. You will also be responsible for managing and developing all aspects of the Total Store in the absence of the Store Director.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare weekly sales and labor projections for the Grocery Department to maximize sales and profits.
  • Monitor and control all costs and expenses, including maintaining proper ordering and inventory control, ensuring proper weighing procedures, controlling shrink, and monitoring ad displays.
  • Manage the Grocery Department staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and initiating required performance reviews.
  • Oversee shift operations, including writing and/or approving Department work schedules.
  • Ensure weekly flyer ads are in stock and ready for sale during business hours and that product for upcoming ads are ordered, in stock, and available for processing.
  • Stock grocery department, including facing, filling, and organization of all product items as set by the Grocery Department schematics as well as ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.
  • Ensure cleanliness of grocery aisles, storage area, and work area for safety, including cleaning of shelves and products, keeping floors free of liquid spills or water, removing hazardous debris from floor, and sweeping.
  • Respond positively to customer inquiries and assist customers with purchases, information, and product selection, requiring selling and cross-selling of products.
  • Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
  • Monitor the rotation of all grocery products, paying particular attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or spoiled items.
  • Balance the grocery general ledger and financial statements.
  • Oversee pre-inventory preparation, including thorough back stocking and assuring tags match products.
  • Manage department inventory control, ensuring no out-of-stocks and/or over-stocks.
  • Sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
  • Walk department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalency degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience.
  • Preferred 3-5 years grocery retail experience in Grocery department processes and procedures.
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
Working Conditions:
  • Some extreme temperatures are possible.
  • Some ventilation and exhaust fans.
