Aircraft Mechanic II Job Description

The Aircraft Mechanic II is a critical role in the maintenance of military tactical aircraft. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and problem-solving skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of aircraft systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation.
  • Use comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation, such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
  • Work with technical guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians to lead teams through complex aircraft tasks and make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects and safely prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Perform scheduled inspections, assist in special inspections, and perform limited maintenance operational checks and diagnose and troubleshoot aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment.
  • Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation and using a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
Requirements:
  • Valid up-to-date A&P license
  • Two years of aviation maintenance experience
  • Three years of rotary wing aircraft experience
  • Two years of experience on the assigned Mission Design Series
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Good communication skills
  • Adaptability, diversification, and capability of troubleshooting entire aircraft systems
  • Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and associated systems principles
  • Knowledge of Quality Control, Production, and Supply procedures
  • Able to properly use a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices
  • Able to determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be corrected through repair or replacement of new parts
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
  • Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds
  • Occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds
  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
