Psychiatrist - Correctional Health Services Day Tour

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to join our team at the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H). As a Psychiatrist on our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, team-based psychiatric care to individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system.
Under the supervision of the Medical Director of Mental Health or a supervising Psychiatrist, you will provide psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic interventions, as well as participate in team meetings and create individual treatment plans for patients.
ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include:
- Providing psychiatric care, including admission evaluations, follow-ups, and urgent and emergent consultations
- Providing consultation to non-prescribing mental health staff and medical staff about diagnosis, treatment, and/or the need for psychiatric medication
- Participating in team meetings with treatment staff, including daily meetings on mental observation units and weekly meetings in clinics
- Creating and reviewing individual treatment plans for patients
- Evaluating patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalizations
- Documenting all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise, and clear manner
- Providing clinical supervision as needed for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants
- Engaging in weekly clinical supervision with Psychiatric leadership
- Providing clinical supervision for Psychiatric volunteers as needed
This position is located on Rikers Island.
Qualifications- Doctor of Medicine degree
- New York State license to practice Medicine, in good standing
- Completion of a 4-yr. US accredited psychiatric residency program
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the ABPN
- At least 2 years' experience taking care of individuals with serious mental illness in an institutional setting
