About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mobility Technician to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a Mobility Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with mobility-related activities to improve their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mobility Technician, your key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with physical therapy, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to meet the needs of patients.
- Providing patient care based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria.
- Developing rapport and mutual respect with patients and fostering an optimal environment for goal achievement.
- Working to promote a culture of mobility with the care team.
- Independently providing direct hands-on patient care to safely mobilize patients and educating families/caregivers on mobility techniques.
- Assisting in ongoing patient mobility, including transfers, ambulation, and facilitation of exercise groups.
- Modeling and maintaining a safe environment in which to deliver service and employing correct body mechanics during activities.
- Monitoring and measuring vital signs, documenting findings, and notifying RN of abnormal results.
- Using CPR skills when required.
- Ongoing communication with nursing, rehabilitation, and other members of the healthcare team regarding patient mobility status and patient outcomes.
- Tracking clinical outcomes and completing associated documentation.
- Notifying nursing of unsafe conditions and handling emergency situations appropriately.
- Practicing OSHA safety standards.
Requirements
To be successful as a Mobility Technician, you will need:
- A High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Basic math, medical terminology, and literacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite platforms, and EPIC.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, we prefer candidates with:
- Enrollment in a Certified Nursing Assistant Program, Patient Care Technician Program, or health sciences program.
- Minimum of 1 year or more of experience in healthcare.
- Minimum of 1 or more years of experience in customer service or patient care.
- Possession of knowledge of common hospital equipment used in patient care.
Working Conditions
This role requires:
- Lifting a minimum of 35 lbs, pushing or pulling a minimum of 35 lbs, carrying up to 35 lbs, and standing a minimum of 7 hours per day.
- Ability to lift or mobilize patients and carry necessary equipment/supplies throughout the hospital.
