About Oakland Leaf

Founded in 2001, Oakland Leaf is a prominent organization dedicated to empowering youth through education and community engagement. Over the past two decades, we have established ourselves as leaders in youth development and after-school programming.

Our organization provides culturally relevant after-school activities for approximately 1,000 K-12 students in East Oakland. We operate seven after-school programs in public elementary and middle schools, offer paid internships for high school students, and host two 5-week summer camps tailored for different age groups. Our programs focus on essential skills such as social and emotional learning, creative expression, critical thinking, leadership, social justice, and college and career readiness, alongside a variety of enrichment opportunities including S.T.E.M. activities, sports, arts, and community projects.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the operational aspects of our programs. This position involves managing clerical tasks, maintaining attendance records, and overseeing sports logistics to ensure smooth program execution. The Program Assistant will report directly to the designated Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately enter attendance data into the designated student information system.
  • Generate precise reports on daily student attendance.
  • Oversee the submission of attendance records by after-school staff.
  • Process and verify student absence information from parents or guardians.
  • Compile and analyze daily and weekly attendance reports, including required monthly Average Daily Attendance.
  • Implement procedures for managing student sports logistics, including rosters and game schedules.
  • Provide coverage for classes as needed in the event of staffing gaps.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must provide TB clearance and background checks from relevant authorities.
  • Possess 48 semester college units or pass the Instructional Aide exam.
  • Effective communication skills with youth, parents, educators, and various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in computer skills, typing, and alphanumeric data entry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Oakland Leaf.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Standard school and office environments.
  • Occasional offsite meetings.
  • Availability to work evenings for events as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule and Compensation

  • This is a part-time, seasonal position.
  • Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, with hours from 1 PM to 6:30 PM (Wednesday and Friday hours may vary).
  • Compensation ranges from $20 to $25 per hour, based on experience.
  • Paid breaks during school holidays.
