Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a certified respiratory therapist to provide exceptional patient care by demonstrating strong knowledge in the field of respiratory care. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care.

The respiratory care practitioner will be responsible for assessing hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and taking corrective action. They will also work with patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatrics, and remain calm under stressful conditions.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work well as a team member. They will also have knowledge of the operation of respiratory care equipment and its application in a clinical setting.

Primary Duties:

The respiratory care practitioner will be responsible for assessing the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of patients, as well as their educational needs. They will also perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including but not limited to:

  • Application, operation, monitoring, and management of all equipment and services provided
  • Oxygen, mixed gas, and humidity; monitoring; ventilators (Invasive and Non-invasive); bronchial hygiene; lung expansion; Spirometry testing; EKG machines; Blood Gas Analysis

The respiratory care practitioner will also employ principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem-solving, and crisis intervention when performing patient care.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care, with an AAS degree or higher. They will also be a CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) with NBRC registration or a Registered Pulmonary Function Technician from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required, as well as ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification within one year of hire. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Certification Program) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification) are also required within one year of hire.

The successful candidate will be registry eligible and have some acute experience preferred. A Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field is also preferred, as is RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
