Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate quality of patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare-associated infections
  • Collect and analyze healthcare-associated infection data
  • Presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions
  • Monitor employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures
  • Prepare and present education offerings for the staff
  • Serve as a resource to all departments and personnel
  • Implement programs to protect the healthcare workers, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment
  • Set and recommend policies and procedures to prevent adverse events
  • Provide internal and external reporting of information and data
  • Promote compliance with regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collect, review, analyze, and interpret surveillance data and recommend appropriate actions to clinicians and administrators targeted to reduce or eliminate infectious risks in patients and staff
  • Conduct investigations of suspected infectious outbreaks
  • Develop, review, evaluate, and implement infection control policies and procedures to improve quality of care and meet current recommended guidelines
  • Educate specific patient population and their families regarding health promotion/infectious disease prevention, and management of their care
  • Function as an educational resource in the areas related to Infection Control
Requirements
  • Education: Registered Professional Nurse- BSN Preferred. Certified in: CPR/BLS.
  • Experience: Strong knowledge of health promotion/illness and injury prevention. Strong organizational skills required. Three years' experience in supervisory nursing position.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) Must be achieved within 6 months of practice (or at the discretion of the director).
