Role Overview

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the People Operations team, the Director oversees a group focused on employee relations and compliance matters. This team ensures adherence to HR policies and legal requirements, conducts preliminary investigations, and escalates issues to the Legal department. The Director offers guidance to HR teams regarding policy implementation and collaborates closely with Legal to manage high-risk situations. They identify obstacles and work with employment legal experts to mitigate compliance risks.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Building and nurturing a team of employee relations and compliance specialists.
  • Ensuring the employee relations team is well-trained and equipped to effectively support the organization.
  • Establishing and supervising global employee relations practices to minimize operational risks and implement best-in-class standards.
  • Staying informed about trends in labor laws and new HR technologies relevant to employee relations.
  • Identifying training opportunities for managers and collaborating with Centers of Excellence as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations regarding employee relations data worldwide.
  • Contributing to various HR initiatives and guiding project teams in maintaining data and process compliance.
  • Assisting in the creation of global HR policies that comply with regulations such as ADA, ADEA, FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, EEOC, and Privacy Regulations, including international laws.
  • Collaborating with the Global HR Compliance Manager to audit HR policies, employment contracts, and employee handbooks for legal compliance across global locations.
  • Supporting and mentoring employee relations specialists, providing necessary training and education.
  • Managing and facilitating internal investigations efficiently, employing structured plans and interviews, and summarizing findings clearly.
  • Partnering with the Legal team for issue escalation and training team members in conducting thorough investigations.
  • Providing essential input for the development, consistent application, and revision of company policies based on investigation outcomes and recommendations.
  • Delivering trend data and feedback to legal and HR teams to mitigate organizational risks.
  • Enhancing the management of internal allegations, claims, and employee relations investigations by refining frameworks and tools.
  • Collaborating with HR Business Leaders and employment counsel on critical employee relations issues.
  • Developing and implementing employee relations training for global solutions teams.
  • Providing support for mergers and acquisitions, including policy harmonization.
  • Conducting investigations into employee relations metrics and trends, offering proactive recommendations and programs to address issues.
  • Implementing case management tracking for employee relations cases, ensuring timely and thorough completion.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of global employment laws and regulations, including GDPR, Data Privacy, FLSA, EPA, and FMLA.
  • Experience in designing and managing scalable compliance processes and programs.
  • Expertise in conducting employee relations investigations with a customer-focused approach in a dynamic business environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a proven track record in team building and development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, demonstrating exceptional time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong conflict management and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proven business acumen, decision-making capabilities, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with facilitation and presentation abilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and an intuitive understanding of business dynamics.
  • Self-motivated with strong prioritization skills; comfortable navigating ambiguity and change.
  • Detail-oriented with a reliable work ethic and a swift pace of execution.
  • Ability to collaborate and engage with various organizational levels to achieve results.

  • Ability to assess sensitive and complex employee relations matters in a confidential and systematic manner.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources or Juris Doctor preferred.
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience in HR, employee relations, or compliance, with a focus on investigations.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a managerial role.
  • Experience managing a center of expertise.
  • Preferred experience in the medical device, life sciences, or related industries.
  • Experience in building organizations from the ground up.
  • Familiarity with case management software.
  • Experience in hiring, developing, and managing teams.
  • Proficiency in locally relevant languages as required by geography.

We offer competitive compensation packages, including base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. Actual pay will be determined based on various factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $206,900 - $310,300
Base Salary Range Region 2: $175,800 - $263,800
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This position will require onsite work weekly, with the specific percentage of onsite work defined by leadership.
