Substance Abuse Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at The GEO Group Australia Pty Ltd. As a key member of our rehabilitation services, you will play a vital role in providing evidence-based readiness and transition programming services to our clients.

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' substance abuse history and treatment requirements, developing individualized treatment plans and documenting all assessment and treatment planning.
• Present individual counseling and group lectures on topics such as relapse prevention, anger management, and life skills, using principles of the 'What Works' system.
• Facilitate psycho-educational and behavior modification groups, documenting participants' attendance, participation, and progress in our database.
• Conduct risk and need assessments, creating individual treatment plans for each assigned participant and meeting regularly with them to document progress or regress.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including intake summaries, group notes, discharge summaries, treatment plans, and updates, ensuring that participants' records are accurately completed in a timely manner.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

• A Bachelor's Degree in a social science or a related field, with six months of professional experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or a Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field with one year of experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling.
• Alternatively, a Master's Degree in a social science or a related field, with six months of professional experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or a Master's Degree in an unrelated field with one year of experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling.
• Certification as a Certified Addictions Professional (CAP), Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJAP), Certified Associate Addictions Professional (CAAP), or Certified Criminal Justice Associate Addictions Professional (CCJAAP) is highly desirable.
