As a Plasma Collection Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the efficient and precise handling of plasma samples gathered from donors. Your responsibilities will encompass the following key areas:
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while collecting plasma samples and transferring plasma units to storage, ensuring the highest quality of the product.
- Guarantee proper storage of plasma units in accordance with SOPs, including the identification of unsuitable plasma units and samples.
- Verify the accuracy of unit labeling by ensuring that pre-printed labels correspond with dynamic labels.
- Employ sterile techniques for sample collection and utilize heat sealing methods to maintain the sterility and quality of plasma unit samples.
- Package and ship samples and units following SOPs and organizational procedures, while preparing necessary shipping and disposal documentation.
- Conduct daily equipment calibration as per SOPs and address any calibration discrepancies.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, documenting incidents and managing equipment service status.
- Monitor the temperatures of freezers and refrigerators, promptly notifying relevant personnel of any operational issues. Record any variances and respond to freezer or refrigerator alarms.
- Provide guidance and technical training to Processing Technicians and other staff as needed.
- Accurately document donor information in the electronic donor management system as outlined in SOPs.
- Understand and apply the policies and procedures related to hyper immune programs, if applicable.
- Maintain a clean and efficient workspace, ensuring that adequate operating supplies and forms are readily available. Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, promoting safety in all actions.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Be open to cross-training in other areas to support business needs.
- Bilingual skills may be beneficial, depending on organizational requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of three (3) months of work experience in a medical or health-related environment, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to comprehend, retain, and apply both oral and written instructions.
- Capable of communicating routine, factual information.
- Must be able to see and interact with customers while observing equipment operations.
- Occasional standing and walking may be required for up to 100% of the time.
- Physical tasks may include reaching, bending, kneeling, and a high level of manual dexterity.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens is possible.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn during specific tasks or in designated areas.
- Willingness to work overtime and extended hours as needed to support operational requirements.
