Job Title: Structural Engineer III

Join Fairfax County's team of professionals in the Building Division as a Structural Engineer III. This role involves working with the Special Inspections Program, ensuring that high-rise and commercial structures conform to building codes and county standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the Special Inspection Program
  • Inspect high-rise and commercial structures to ensure compliance with building codes and county standards
  • Communicate development regulations to contractors, developers, engineers, and other stakeholders
  • Conduct training in technical, legal, and administrative aspects of the code and county policies
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in engineering or a related field
  • Ability to climb stairs in high-rise buildings, lift plans up to 25 pounds, and operate keyboard-driven equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect license (RA)
  • Experience in mid-and high-rise buildings construction
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills
Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. The appointee will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check, and a pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.
