Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Eaton Rapids Medical Center. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Welcome and orient patients and families to our facility, ensuring a smooth and comfortable transition.
- Provide information on hospital policies, safety protocols, and patient rights, promoting a safe and respectful environment.
- Obtain vital signs, weights, and other essential information, applying cardiac monitoring as ordered.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights, ensuring timely assistance and support.
- Make regular patient rounds to ensure care and safety needs are met, including bed alarms, turning, and toileting.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as meal assistance, bathing, and toileting.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and isolation protocols, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
- Assist with transport of patients to other departments and on discharge, promoting a seamless transition.
- Collaborate with RNs to cleanse wounds, change dressings, and perform other clinical tasks, as assigned.
- Immediately report concerns or changes in patient condition to RNs, ensuring prompt attention and care.
- Collect, package, and deliver specimens to the lab, maintaining accurate records and protocols.
- Order supplies and equipment in Meditech, monitoring and maintaining par levels to ensure efficient operations.
- Complete monthly departmental checklists, calibrate equipment, and monitor refrigerator/freezer thermometers and telemetry logs.
- Follow instructions from direct reports, establishing work priorities and maintaining a productive and cost-effective environment.
- Demonstrate competency in order entry, accurately entering patient orders in Meditech.
- Accurately document vital signs, daily weights, intake, and output, and other pertinent data in Meditech.
- Provide excellent customer service, responding to physicians, staff, peers, patients, and public/customers in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ensure a quiet, business-like atmosphere on the unit, making environmental rounds and maintaining cleanliness of patient rooms, utility rooms, refrigerators, nurse's station, and break room.
- Communicate concerns to appropriate personnel, including Manager, and maintain the Medical Surgical Unit in a state of readiness for surveys and inspections.
- Arrange for consultations and assist consulting physicians with correct order entry procedures and forms completion.
- Schedule outpatient procedures and tests, preparing patient transfer forms and assisting with transfer arrangements.
- Participate in healthcare-related educational opportunities, completing CareLearning, Lippincott, and clinical competencies as assigned.
- Contribute to generating Quality Improvement goals and achieving them, maintaining records of in-service, staff meetings, continuing education, and competency completion.
- Demonstrate competency in using Meditech, public drives, Microsoft Office, and email/calendar applications.
- BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of accredited CNA or PCT program preferred.
- 1-2 years experience with direct patient care required.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
