Rotary Wing Aircraft Technician

The Rotary Wing Aircraft Technician (UH-60 Specialist) is responsible for diagnosing issues in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, anti-icing systems, pneudraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.
+ Conducts repairs, replacements, and refurbishments of aircraft structures, including wings and fuselage, as well as functional components such as rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and machinery like shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.
+ Interprets and applies manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering specifications, and other documentation to assess the feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
+ Executes various inspections including 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other scheduled inspections. Examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engines to identify and diagnose malfunctions such as sticking or burnt valves. Inspects jet engines and components for signs of cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security issues, warping, wear, and missing segments. Tests engine operation using diagnostic equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, ammeters, and jet calibration testers to pinpoint malfunctions.
+ Responsibilities include replacing or repairing worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine-mounted gearboxes. This involves removing engines from aircraft using hoists or forklifts, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, and other defects, and subsequently repairing or replacing defective engine parts before reassembling and reinstalling the engine in the aircraft.
+ Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories. Conducts preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and performs various duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
+ Oversees the jacking and towing of aircraft, documents maintenance records detailing the work performed, and verifies that the work was completed satisfactorily. May service engines and airframe components at line stations, making necessary repairs short of overhaul to ensure aircraft remain in safe operating condition. May also specialize in the repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, as well as engine repair.
+ Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Proficient knowledge of equipment related to individual requirements (UH-60).
+ Familiarity with military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is essential.
+ Understanding of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is advantageous.
+ Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions is necessary.
+ A minimum of three years of aviation maintenance experience, including two years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS) is required.
+ All experience must be within the last six years.
+ A valid and current A&P license is preferred but not mandatory.
+ All mechanics performing maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
+ Must provide personal tools/toolbox. Tools must be organized in the toolbox and etched with PID.
+ A valid driver's license is required.
Clearance Requirements:
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must also obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Physical/Preferred Requirements:
+ Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
+ Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
+ Most heavy lifting is accomplished using mechanical devices.
+ Work is performed in a Maintenance Hangar environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated, as well as outdoors. May be required to respond to various operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and basic infrastructure.
+ Exposure to disagreeable fumes and risks of cuts and bruises from using tools in confined spaces, as well as hazards from moving vehicles such as forklifts in the shop area.
+ While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to manipulate tools, and communicate effectively.
+ The employee frequently walks, reaches with hands and arms, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, often working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
+ The employee may occasionally sit, climb, or balance.
+ Familiarity with military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
