Aircraft Mechanic I Job Description

The Aircraft Mechanic I (Prop & Rotor Specialty) plays a crucial role in ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft by performing repairs, services, and troubleshooting malfunctions on drive train and rotor systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies and components, including rotor systems, transmissions, drive trains, and their components.
  • Service and lubricate aircraft and subsystems to maintain optimal performance.
  • Prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Perform scheduled inspections and assist in special inspections to identify potential issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot aircraft power train systems using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Apply technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical documentation and guidance.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft power train components to ensure airworthiness.
  • Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools, such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and micrometers.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and logistics information systems.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and lead teams through complex tasks.
  • Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by mechanics.
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Knowledge of military publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
  • Required three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). UH-60/CH-47.
  • All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and PID etched in each tool.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work could be performed outside as well.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
