Pharmacy Technician Role at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in preparing and distributing medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare patient-specific and non-patient specific doses by ensuring that medications are identified, retrieved, drawn-up, labeled, packaged and stored according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  2. Deliver patient-specific medications to the designated medication storage location in the proper patient care unit according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  3. Properly handle and accurately oversee floor-stock medications to designated automated dispensing cabinetry according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  4. Properly handle and accurately oversee medications in all non-automated distribution systems according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  5. Comply with all federal, state, and department standards and regulations for non-sterile product compounding.

  6. Repackage medications into unit-dose packages using pharmacy repackaging hardware according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  7. Perform inspection processes according to the CHOP Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

  8. Ensure that all documentation and recordkeeping requirements set forth by CHOP Pharmacy are met.

  9. Comply with all mandates set forth by CHOP Pharmacy and by CHOP Human Resources.

  10. Inventory Control: Maintain and organize inventory supply in a manner which minimizes inventory storage cost, wastage, and stock-outs.

  11. Ensure the secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances.

  12. Achieve patient safety and satisfaction through the use of LEAN principles.

  13. Participate in hospital and departmental Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Technical Diploma Pharmacy Technician - Preferred
  • Associate's Degree - Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
  • Basic computer skills including use of Windows operating system and word processors.
  • Calculation skills
