Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Research Physician to join our team at the National Institutes of Health. As an extramural physician, you will play a critical role in stimulating, planning, advising, directing, and evaluating program activities for a portfolio of research projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer clinical and basic research projects, collaborating with investigators and institutions to advance medical knowledge and improve human health.
  • Develop and implement research and training programs, projects, contracts, conferences, and workshops that align with the NIH's mission and goals.
  • Evaluate the recommendations of peer review programs and work closely with principal investigators and awardee institutions to ensure the success of research projects.
  • Maintain liaison with investigators, institutions, organizations, and other government agencies to foster collaboration and advance medical research.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or an equivalent accrediting body.
  • Active, current, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, such as a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

Additional Qualifications

  • 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
  • Ability to provide independent leadership in research and participate in the overall planning, development, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the extramural program.
