Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and/or family members to obtain needed patient information.
  • Responsible for excellence in customer service and ensuring patient needs are met.
  • Respond to routine requests for information/service and direct visitors/patients to appropriate medical staff.
  • Adhere to office scheduling policies and make and cancel appointments, including office visits, tests, and procedures through the office scheduling system and hospital system.
  • Log all no shows/cancelled appointments and call patients to reschedule as needed.
  • Verify insurance for procedures, tests, and make referrals as needed.
  • Enter and update patient information in the computer system, including place of service, insurance type, policy holder, provider of service, and referring physician.
  • Answer the telephone in a timely manner, screen calls, take messages, consult, and provide information.
  • Check out patients, collect co-pays, and payments on account balances and complete end-of-day deposits according to policy.
  • Manage and maintain physician and clinic schedules appropriately, updating the office schedule regularly for patient additions/cancellations.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities in an appropriate time frame.
  • Demonstrate flexibility when involved in changing situations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in appearance and actions.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in staff development and education activities.
  • Maintain the work area and lobby in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Create referrals in the scheduling system in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required.
  • Prefer one year of work experience in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification desirable.
  • Word processing and computer experience desirable.
