The Radiology Technologist Associate is responsible for a range of patient care tasks and professional duties aimed at enhancing patient treatment and care. This role operates under the guidance of a licensed radiology technologist and plays a crucial part in managing patient flow within the radiology department.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts basic diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a radiology technologist. Addresses patient inquiries regarding imaging procedures and provides assistance as needed. Prepares patients for examinations, ensuring their safety in the absence of the supervising technologist. Secures medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast agents as instructed for administration by qualified healthcare professionals. Aids physicians and technologists in executing diagnostic imaging exams across various modalities, including Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and Ultrasound, particularly those requiring contrast media. Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while assisting with administrative tasks in the RIS, EMR, or other necessary applications for diagnostic workflows. Provides support to patients with restroom needs, bedpans, urinals, and other clinical assistance as required. Engages in administrative responsibilities, quality assurance, safety protocols, and compliance measures.Physical Demands
This position necessitates moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and sitting, along with occasional stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling. The individual may encounter various physical conditions, such as walking on hard surfaces and navigating stairs, while being near operational equipment. Adherence to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to ionizing radiation, as well as MRI safety and infection control standards, is essential.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with preliminary coursework toward a certificate or degree in a medical imaging discipline. Clinical experience aligned with the educational program related to a career in medical imaging is preferred, as are medical clerical skills.
