Head of Communications and Brand Strategy for Copper Americas

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Copper Americas team as the Head of Communications and Brand Strategy. This is a 12-month fixed-term role based in Salt Lake City, Utah, where you will lead the delivery of brand and marketing communications for Copper Americas through the execution of strategic communications plans with emphasis on activating and managing corporate sponsorships agreements at the Utah and US levels. Your primary responsibility will be to act as a key Rio Tinto brand champion for the region, ensuring alignment with Group brand and reputation strategy, standards, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of communications campaigns to engage and inform employees, communities, and the public in relation to Kennecott, Resolution, and broader Copper Operations portfolio, while ensuring alignment with Group brand and reputation strategy.
- Partner with Kennecott, Resolution Copper, and other Copper Operations teams to elevate Copper's profile in the Americas while ensuring alignment on messaging and branding, connecting where necessary on the business's broader US and Americas strategy goals.
- Act as a key Rio Tinto brand champion for the region, ensuring alignment with Group brand and reputation strategy, standards, and best practices.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the company's overall business objectives and priorities.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, employees, customers, and community leaders, to promote the company's brand and reputation.
- Manage and execute events, including employee engagement events, media/press events, customer events, off-site and industry conferences, and brand-building events, to promote the company's brand and reputation.
- Develop and implement a sponsorship strategy that aligns with the company's overall business objectives and priorities.
- Develop and manage the company's social media presence, including creating and publishing content, engaging with followers, and monitoring and responding to comments and messages.
- Develop and implement a crisis communications plan to ensure the company is prepared to respond to potential crises and maintain its reputation.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Senior experience (7+ years) in corporate communications, employee communications, and reputation management, with a proven track record of leading, supporting, and developing a team.
- Advanced knowledge of local and regional media networks and landscapes, with a strong understanding of the company's industry and market.
- Excellent written and spoken language skills, with sharp attention to detail and the ability to tailor complex information for a breadth of audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, high emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to work flexibly, accommodating occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours, with a strong commitment to safety and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
