Job Title: Laboratory Technician II Position

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician II to join our team at the City of DeLand. As a Laboratory Technician II, you will be responsible for performing routine field sampling and analysis under the general direction of the Chief Environmental Chemist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine field sampling and analysis under the general direction of the Chief Environmental Chemist.
  • Perform technical work in a NELAP Certified Laboratory.
  • Set up and adjust laboratory apparatus.
  • Assist in the preparation of reagents for bacteriological and chemical analysis.
  • Conduct sampling and analyses of drinking water, wastewater, sludge, industrial pretreatment, and groundwater.
  • Able to perform competent related computer skills.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory apparatus and glassware.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory of chemicals, reagents, and glassware.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and perform miscellaneous functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor's from an accredited college or university with a major in Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science or related field is required.
  • A minimum three (3) year documented experience as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Class C Certification in Industrial Pretreatment from FDEP is preferred.
  • FOG I Certification from FDEP is preferred.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and write neatly.
  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

Work Environment/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation, and driving. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty conditions, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.

Lifting: Lift 75 Pounds and Over

Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100

Environment: Inside Work/Outside Work in Various Conditions, Hearing: Normal to Very High Noise Levels for Work Environment
