Dual-Role Athletic Trainer and Middle School Health Educator

Sandy Spring Friends School is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill a unique dual-role position that combines Athletic Training and Middle School Health Education. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in athletic training, a passion for education, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities- Athletic Training (70%):
- Provide comprehensive athletic training services, including injury prevention, emergency care, first aid, and injury evaluation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and application of concussion protocols and emerging practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between athletes, their families, coaching staff, and medical professionals.
- Ensure accurate documentation of injury reports, treatment logs, home care instructions, and referrals.
- Manage the fitness center and training facilities, working in conjunction with the on-campus health center to ensure all physical and emergency forms are up-to-date and properly filed.
- Attend all scheduled team practices and games, which may include evening hours, as coordinated with the Athletic Director.
- Assist the Athletic Director with various departmental tasks and responsibilities.
- Middle School Health Teaching (30%):
- Teach an established Middle School health curriculum for grades 6-8, focusing on promoting overall student wellness and health education.
- Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.
- Partner with the Middle School Counselor to teach the Social Emotional Health Curriculum.
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field preferred.
- Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) is required.
- Previous classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in current professional literature and best practices related to Physical Education, with a proven ability to integrate technology into the PE curriculum.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, as required by athletic schedules.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, coaches, and medical professionals.
- Embracing diversity, valuing ongoing professional development, and being adaptable to new initiatives are key attributes we seek.
- Familiarity with Quaker beliefs and practices is advantageous, not mandatory.
