Role Summary

This position is for a Systems Engineer to contribute to the Mission Electronics Subsystem (MES) Program at our facility.

The selected Systems Engineer will assist the lead Safety Engineer in executing the System Safety Program, focusing on both software and hardware safety throughout the program's lifecycle.

In this capacity, the Systems Engineer will also collaborate with the wider MES Systems Engineering team.

The Systems Engineer will actively engage in the Systems Safety Working Group and maintain regular communication with customer Safety representatives.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate proactivity, work effectively in a team setting, and interface daily with software, hardware, and systems engineers.



Key Responsibilities:
> Assist in software and hardware safety initiatives, emphasizing the identification of safety features and controls for hazard mitigation/elimination
> Conduct risk assessments and mitigation strategies for all identified safety issues, providing reports during design reviews
> Develop safety requirements for software and hardware, ensuring verification during integration and testing
> Review system interfaces, bugs, problem reports, and deviations/waivers for safety compliance
> Complete System Safety hazard analyses, meticulously documenting all findings for submission

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in detailed software and hardware design/development projects
  • Proven track record in requirements management, including definition, decomposition, and verification
  • Strong customer interaction skills to effectively communicate and resolve issues
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes across all development lifecycle phases
  • Experience in an Agile development environment
  • Candidate must be eligible to obtain a DoD Final Secret Security Clearance, requiring US Citizenship.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability in System-of-Systems thinking and evaluation
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882 or similar safety standards
  • Experience in conducting Safety Hazard Analyses and safety requirement testing/verification
  • Experience in supporting customer working groups and presenting at program reviews
  • Enthusiasm for applying Systems Engineering expertise to the System Safety domain
  • Experience with US Navy Undersea Warfare, including sonar and sensors
  • Proficiency in system diagrams and modeling tools, such as CAMEO/Magic Draw
