Job Summary

As a Quality Assurance Manager at Southwest Baking, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating all programs to ensure the quality of our company-labeled products. This role requires demonstration of competency for all job activities that may have a direct or indirect effect on product safety, quality, legality, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Embody Southwest Baking's Prime Directives and Statement of Values.
  • Collaborate closely with all Leadership to promote Southwest Baking goals.
  • Direct associates to meet/exceed established goals for Quality of the product, cGMP's, food/associate safety, and food defense.
  • Directly supervise QA Control Technicians and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Manage all internal and third-party quality and food safety audits.
  • Conduct training as necessary, in QA department as well as companywide.
  • Interact with management team to communicate department quality requirements and provide recommendations for addressing non-conformances.
  • Recommend measures to improve quality of products and quality systems; work with appropriate management teams to implement.
  • Oversee Sanitation department on appropriate practices, including budgeting.
  • Assist in the management and QA portion of R&D projects.
  • Refine current plant measurement techniques, laboratory testing procedures, record keeping, and data analysis.
  • Document control.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, policies, and OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  • Promote safety, sanitation, productivity, quality communication, and a team spirit, as well as a mutual respect for all associates and departments.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, etc.).
  • Commit to a continuing educational process that improves/expands business capacities and capabilities.
  • Direct the quality improvement efforts of the company by following a structured continuous improvement approach and focusing on root cause identification and correction.
  • Actively interface with customers for quality issues, technical information, specification, agreements, audits, etc.
  • Manage the customer satisfaction processes and provide instructions when discrepancies are identified to improve overall customer satisfaction.
  • Assist personnel in evaluation of product non-conformities and root cause analysis down to design. Collaborate in the development and evaluation of permanent counter measures.
  • Oversee internal audit processes with emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
Qualifications, Experience & Education
  • Associate's degree or five plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years prior experience in manufacturing.
  • Food Science and baking experience required.
  • A minimum of three years supervisory experience.
  • Deep knowledge experience in SQF, GFSI, BRC, or FSSC 22000 food processing environment.
  • Strong expertise in statistical analysis.
  • Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Well-versed in word computer programs including Excel spreadsheets, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Enjoy a hands-on work environment.
  • Contribute ideas and innovation strategies within the company.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and strong problem-solving skills.
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
  • Ability to be a good representative of the Company.

Physical Requirements & Exposures
  • While performing this position, the associate will regularly be required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Must have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
Language Skills

Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively and efficiently to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
