About the Position

The Housekeeper will perform general custodial services as directed within the campus housing system, ensuring a clean and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff. This role involves cleaning common areas, hallways, and stairwells, as well as performing daily pick-up of exterior community grounds.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain residential facilities, including common areas, hallways, and stairwells
  • Perform daily pick-up of exterior community grounds
  • Clean and maintain laundry rooms, including mopping floors and wiping down machines
  • Clean and maintain student rooms, including furniture, windows, ledges, doors, and closets
  • Perform minor repairs to student room furniture
  • Install window treatments and replace light bulbs as directed
  • Load and unload furniture and other materials, and transport to designated locations
  • Report any safety concerns or suspicious activity to the supervisor
Requirements
  • Related work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
  • General knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures related to hazardous cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to read and follow cleaning instructions and schedules
  • Ability to practice effective oral communication skills with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to work independently, without close supervision
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful periods
About the Department

Housing & Residence Life (HRL) is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life unit of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in traditional, suite and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area.
