Job Overview

Position Title: Information Systems Security Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the security measures of the information system and executing daily security operations.
  • Assessing security solutions to confirm they align with requirements for handling classified data.
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments and risk analysis to facilitate certification and accreditation (C&A).
  • Managing configuration for security software, hardware, and firmware within the information system.
  • Evaluating modifications to the system and determining their security implications.
  • Preparing and reviewing essential documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Risk Assessment Reports, C&A Packages, and System Requirements Traceability Matrices (SRTMs).
  • Assisting in security authorization processes in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF).
  • Maintaining comprehensive records for workstations, servers, routers, firewalls, and network devices, including system upgrades.
  • Creating and updating documentation for C&A in compliance with Department of Defense policies.
  • Providing support to the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) to uphold the necessary operational Information Assurance (IA) posture.
  • Developing and revising the system security plan and other IA-related documentation.
  • Administering user identification and authentication protocols for the information system.
  • Securing C&A for information systems under supervision.
  • Acting as the Approval Authority for information systems under management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a TOP SECRET Department of Defense Clearance.

Supervisory Role: None

Work Environment: This position is conducted in a professional office and classroom setting, utilizing standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, communicate, and use hands for computer and telephone operations.
  • Specific vision abilities are necessary for close-up work on computers.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be necessary.

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to effectively perform the essential functions of this role.

Position Type and Expected Hours:

This is a full-time role, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workdays exclude Federal holidays and periods when government facilities are closed due to emergencies or administrative reasons.

Travel Requirements:

Minimal travel may be necessary.
