Job Title: Prevention Specialist

WestCare Foundation is seeking a skilled Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our prevention services team, you will play a critical role in delivering evidence-based prevention programs to youth and families in our community.

Job Summary:

The Prevention Specialist will work within the framework of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) model to conduct assessments, identify prevention needs, and plan evidence-based interventions. You will collaborate with stakeholders to address substance abuse issues effectively and deliver educational programs, workshops, and campaigns to raise awareness and build resilience among target populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide prevention and intervention services to youth ages 9 to 12.
  • Communicate and collaborate with project partners, including the project director, DFC Coalitions, and Alternative Schools Network.
  • Coordinate program activities with local schools and community organizations.
  • Recruit youth to participate in program services and provide program orientation to participants.
  • Provide information about the prevention of alcohol, marijuana, and opioid use, and stay current on literature and developments in the field.
  • Train youth in social networking skills and provide referrals to community services as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and represent the agency at meetings and events as requested.
  • Support program operations and report problems and progress to the project director.
Requirements:
  • Two years' experience working in substance abuse prevention, community health promotion, or related fields is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of substance abuse issues, mental health promotion, and evidence-based prevention strategies is essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, psychology, or a related field is strongly desired.
Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an office or in a Residential/Outpatient treatment setting. Travel throughout and around the community and outreach is required.
