Job Title: Experiment Engineer

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Experiment Engineer to join our team in the Experiment Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) facility with every Friday off. All work is performed onsite.

The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the irradiation of experiments at the ATR and ensuring ATR evolutions for the experiments are scheduled. They will report directly to the manager of the Experiment Engineering department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform experiment safety analysis to demonstrate compliance with all applicable nuclear safety requirements.
  • Develop experiment-specific safety requirements and ensure requirements are properly implemented into procedures and other work control documents.
  • Collaborate with other INL organizations for analysis, design, and other engineering activities.
  • Evaluate, design, modify, install, and test facility systems and process support systems.
  • Initiate corrective actions in abnormal situations.
  • Monitor nuclear facility operations to ensure design, construction, or operation practices comply with safety regulations and safe operational principles.
  • Develop and write sophisticated procedures for the modification and operation of facility, equipment, and processes.
  • Examine potential scenarios for use in development of preventive measures.
  • Direct operating or maintenance activities of nuclear facility to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Determine optimum configuration for experiments and perform analysis to demonstrate compliance with safety limits.
  • Develop, ensure adequacy of, and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
  • Develop loop chemistry requirements and perform core load verification.
  • Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure assigned process systems and equipment are operated, maintained, and modified to meet operational and research needs.
  • Establish experiment insertion and removal documentation and document experiment requirements and operating information.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in Engineering and 2 years of experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Requirements:
  • National Laboratory engineering experience.
  • Nuclear Safety experience.
  • Familiarity with ATR experiment processes.

The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496) / Level 3 ($91,008 - $186,588). At Idaho National Laboratory, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
