About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Idaho National Laboratory. As a Mechanical Engineer for the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment, you will be responsible for providing applied mechanical engineering expertise to support the design, development, and operation of the reactor experiment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering principles to solve mechanical problems related to nuclear reactor installation, removal, and fuel handling activities.
  • Work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to decompose project goals into defined and controlled design requirements.
  • Develop physics-based mathematical models of mechanical, chemical, and electrical systems to support and verify design.
  • Maintain familiarity with and technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to the discipline.
  • Document the design to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements to ensure technical features important to design responsibilities are maintained.
  • Oversee or otherwise ensure that fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement are done observing the design.
  • Develop the assigned systems/equipment and perform calculations related to the specifications of the project.
  • Provide solutions to technical problems and recommendations for improvements in production activities.
  • Apply engineering principles to monitor and evaluate condition and operational performance of plant systems related to mechanical engineering.
  • Lead the development of new projects at the INL in the area of specialty, including the development of proposals and business plans.
  • Develop, ensure adequacy of, and maintain configuration management of the technical baseline.
Requirements
  • Level 1: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with 0 years experience or directly related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with 2+ years experience or directly related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
