Job Title: HVAC/Boiler Tender

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a skilled HVAC/Boiler Tender to support our ISS2 contract with the Air Force. This rotational position requires 3 months on-site at Earackson Air Station (EAS) in Shemya, AK, and 1 month off unpaid.

Housing is provided in a dormitory facility, and all meals are furnished through the cafeteria. Transportation to EAS from Anchorage, AK is provided by government-sponsored aircraft. If you live outside of Anchorage, you are responsible for your own transportation to get to Anchorage, AK.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will tend one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water for use in an establishment. This involves firing boilers, observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters, and charts that register various aspects of boiler operation.

The incumbent will also perform repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  1. Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  2. Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
  3. Repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration units. Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.
  4. Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  5. Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys. Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters, and cleans coils as needed.
  6. Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
  7. Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, PLC controls, and aqua stats.
  8. Performs duties on PL-1 resources under the direction of the MDA Liaison.
  9. Responds to callouts after normal working hours as needed.
  10. Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed.
  11. Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.
  12. Performs related work as assigned.

  • Working cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.
Work Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information, and respond to safety warnings.

Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.

Requirements:
  • Mandatory
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years' verifiable experience as a HVAC technician or Boiler Tender.
  • Universal refrigerant card issued by the EPA.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Obtain an interim security clearance and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
