Job Summary

MCNC is seeking a highly skilled Network Architect to support the development of next-generation data-network service offerings on the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN). The successful candidate will have a strong background in data networking, telecommunications, and cybersecurity, with experience in designing and implementing large-scale data networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of data networking service offerings within the MCNC service development framework.
  • Support NCREN operations by ensuring the quality of network device software, configurations, and security posture.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Network Architecture and Management/Chief Network Architect to develop and implement network infrastructure designs.
  • Participate in Pre-Sales Engineering activities and create technical responses to RFPs/RFIs/RFQs/IFBs.
  • Represent MCNC at Research & Education focused events and perform other duties as prescribed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in data networking.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in designing data/telecommunications networks and developing data network/telecommunications service offerings.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to create detailed reports, diagrams, and system documentation.
  • Demonstrable experience with data networking at scale in large data network environments.
  • Experience with carrier class routers and switches, IOS XR, IOS XE, Junos, and other similar network operating systems.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix, scripting languages, and network automation.
  • Understanding of how to engineer solutions within budget and time constraints.
