Job Title: Unit Manager: Sussex State Prison Complex

Job Summary:

The Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of one or more housing units at a major correctional center. This includes collaborating with security, treatment, maintenance, and support staff to ensure inmates receive effective reentry programming and services based on evidence-based principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee inmate classification, discipline, programs, and services, security operations, audit compliance documentation, and building maintenance and sanitation for assigned units.
  • Collaborate with security, treatment, maintenance, and support staff to ensure effective reentry programming and services.
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Make effective operational decisions.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Extensive working knowledge of prison operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience effectively communicating with all levels of institutional staff, inmates, and inmate family members.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver reports and presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to make effective operational decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advance knowledge in criminal justice, public administration, or a human services field.
  • Experience supervising correctional staff.
  • Working knowledge of security and treatment within an adult correctional setting.
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based research and practices for prison operations.
  • Working knowledge of reentry programs and services available to inmates.
