Lead Elastomer Scientist

Da/Pro Rubber, a prominent custom manufacturer specializing in precision rubber and plastic components, is in search of a Chief Elastomer Chemist. This pivotal role involves the development and enhancement of rubber formulations while overseeing the systems that connect quality assurance and production processes.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Position Summary:

The Chief Elastomer Chemist will analyze rubber samples to ensure they meet established specifications. In the event of quality discrepancies or anomalies, this role serves as the primary problem-solving contact, collaborating with various departments to implement necessary adjustments to compounds. The Chemist will work closely with the Chief Chemist to enhance laboratory practices and refine procedural methodologies. Occasional travel to industry conferences and training sessions may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Formulation development of rubber compounds for diverse markets and applications.
• Investigation of failures from defective rubber production batches and customer returns, including troubleshooting manufacturing processes.
• Conducting analytical tests on rubber products and interpreting test results.
• Evaluating findings to innovate new concepts, products, equipment, or processes.
• Completing documentation for processes and ISO standards.
• Preparing technical reports for engineering, management, and sales teams.
• Designing experiments to support product development.
• Creating Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) documentation.
• Providing support for Corrective Action/Preventive Action, Quality, and Lean Implementation initiatives.
• Engaging with customers and vendors as necessary.
• Offering production support as required.
• Performing other duties as assigned by executive leadership.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or Polymer Science from an accredited institution.
• Proven expertise in statistics, particularly in manufacturing, with a solid understanding of standard deviation, normal distributions, and process capability metrics.
• Advanced skills in using standard laboratory equipment, MS Office Suite, and web browsers.
• Familiarity with industry standards and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five to ten years of experience in a rubber mixing and manufacturing setting.
• Knowledge of compounding requirements for various polymer families, particularly in medical, consumer, and aerospace sectors.
• Experience with all mixing techniques for thermoset elastomers.
