This pivotal role involves enhancing and innovating rubber formulations while overseeing the systems that integrate with quality assurance and production processes.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Position Summary:
The Chief Elastomer Chemist will evaluate rubber samples to ensure they meet specified standards. In the event of discrepancies or quality concerns, this role serves as the primary contact for problem resolution, collaborating with various departments to implement necessary adjustments to compounds. The Chemist will also partner with the Chief Chemist to enhance laboratory practices and refine procedural methodologies. Attendance at industry conferences and training sessions may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulation development of rubber compounds tailored for diverse markets and applications.
- Investigation of failures from defective rubber production batches and customer returns, including troubleshooting manufacturing processes.
- Conducting analytical tests on rubber products and interpreting test results.
- Assessing findings to innovate new concepts, products, equipment, or processes.
- Completing documentation for processes and ISO standards.
- Preparing technical reports for engineering, management, and sales teams.
- Designing experiments to test hypotheses.
- Creating Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) documentation.
- Supporting Corrective Action/Preventive Action initiatives, Quality, and Lean Implementation.
- Engaging with customers and suppliers as necessary.
- Providing production support.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by executive leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or Polymer Science from an accredited institution.
- Proven expertise in statistics, particularly in manufacturing, with a solid grasp of standard deviation, normal distributions, and process capability metrics.
- Advanced skills in standard laboratory equipment, MS Office Suite, and web browsers.
- Familiarity with industry standards and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five to ten years of experience in rubber mixing and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of compounding requirements across all polymer families for medical, consumer, and aerospace applications.
- Understanding of all mixing techniques for thermoset elastomers.
