Job Summary:

Piedmont Virginia Community College seeks a dedicated and skilled Law Enforcement Officer to provide police protection of persons and property for the college campus and adjacent or surrounding streets and properties. The successful candidate will uphold the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the rules and regulations of the Piedmont Virginia Community College.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide law enforcement services by patrol of campus property daily.
  • Enforce all college parking and traffic regulations.
  • Direct and control traffic, conduct investigations of vehicular accidents, thefts, first aid events and other incidents as necessary.
  • Provide information, directions, and assistance to the campus and surrounding community.

Requirements:
  • Successfully function both mentally and physically under stress and emergency situations.
  • Successfully communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record and ability to operate a department motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Experience gathering information and writing reports.
  • Experience testifying in legal hearings and in court cases.
  • A clean criminal record with no convictions for felonies, domestic violence, or crimes of moral turpitude.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen test.
  • Must possess DCJS law enforcement certification for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous work experience working in a college, military and/or municipal police environment.
  • Prior Community Policing experience.
  • Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.
  • Current or former DCJS General and/or Specialty Instructor Certification.
  • Possess considerable knowledge of law enforcement, as well as security and safety concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to give clear oral and written instructions to elicit compliance with law, policies, and regulations in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Possess current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
