Overview: The Nutrition Specialist I plays a crucial role in delivering nutritional guidance to vulnerable populations, specifically low-income women, infants, and children up to the age of five who face nutritional challenges. This position is responsible for crafting tailored food plans, disseminating information on healthy dietary practices, and facilitating connections to healthcare and community resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition evaluations and create personalized nutrition care strategies based on individual client needs.
  • Gather relevant health and medical data, and assist clients in securing referrals and appointments.
  • Act as an advocate for clients, coordinating care as necessary.
  • Provide nutrition education to individuals and groups, potentially developing food package prescriptions in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Interpret and clarify program policies and procedures for participants.
  • Document health, social, and nutritional risk factors, along with services rendered.
  • Create and update educational resources that respect cultural diversity.
  • Organize and implement food service and nutritional initiatives aimed at promoting health and preventing disease.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Engage in emergency preparedness training and exercises.
  • Participate in team meetings, patient reviews, and ongoing training.
  • Stay informed about advancements in the nutrition field as required by professional standards.
  • Adhere to funding source requirements and relevant accreditation standards.
  • May issue benefits related to Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and explain approved food options.
  • Contribute to nutrition education pilot programs and initiatives related to breastfeeding.
  • May assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
  • Utilize standard office equipment and necessary software applications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.

Experience: 1-2 years in nutrition, dietetics, or a related health field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses/Certifications: May require registration as a Dietitian or eligibility for registration, with completion of a dietetic internship preferred.

Working Conditions: Normal business hours with potential for additional hours; local travel may be required.
