School Nurse Position

The Naugatuck Public Schools seek a qualified School Nurse to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of health care services to students and staff, promoting and protecting their optimal health status.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as a member of the school team, providing health care services and acting as a health advocate for all students and staff.
• Assess the health needs of students and staff, providing appropriate referrals and emergency first aid as needed.
• Collaborate with parents, students, teachers, and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
• Monitor students with special needs, maintaining accurate records and making referrals as necessary.
• Provide guidance and counseling to families in health-related areas, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Requirements:
A valid RN license from the State Department of Health Services and current CPR Certification are required. The successful candidate will also be knowledgeable about State of Connecticut laws pertaining to immunizations, medication administration, health records, and other related issues.
Working with the School Community:
The School Nurse will work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to implement a comprehensive school health program, providing current scientific information related to health promotion and disease prevention. The successful candidate will also be responsible for monitoring attendance concerns, especially when medical documentation is required.
Professional Development:
The School Nurse will remain current with the school nursing profession by attending conferences and workshops, as well as through professional readings. This will ensure that the successful candidate remains knowledgeable about best practices in school nursing and can provide high-quality care to students and staff.
Reports to:
The Supervisor of Nurses will oversee the work of the School Nurse, providing guidance and support as needed. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and reports, as well as communicating effectively with parents, students, and other school personnel.
