Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Housekeeper/Porter to join our team at Homes for the Homeless, Inc. in the Longwood area of the Bronx. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for our families in residence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform general cleaning and custodial duties in common areas, including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors, as well as dusting and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Minor Repairs and Maintenance: Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as replacing light fixtures, unclogging pipes, and performing limited grounds maintenance.
  • Restroom and Cafeteria Cleaning: Clean and sanitize restrooms and cafeteria areas, including sinks, toilets, and showers.
  • Laundry Services: Assist with laundry services, including washing, drying, and folding linens and clothing.
  • Turnover of Housing Units: Clean and prepare housing units for new residents, including dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Safety and Security: Assist in examining the building for safety hazards and report any deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor, Director of Building Operations, and/or Administrator of the Facility.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with custodial work is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions is essential.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and ability to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 60 pounds at a time are required.
