Position DetailsThis is a full-time, tenured faculty role. The selected candidate will spearhead strategic planning and curriculum innovation for the Department of Counselor Education. Responsibilities include managing departmental budgets and operations, evaluating faculty and staff performance, and overseeing accreditation processes. The chairperson will also teach two courses each academic year and engage in service to the university, community, and professional organizations, while actively participating in student recruitment and faculty development initiatives.
Furthermore, the chair will serve on the Executive Council for the College of Education and the University's Council of Chairs.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program. A proven track record in university-level teaching and leadership roles within higher education, such as department chair or program coordinator, is essential.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong history of scholarly contributions and service, qualifying for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. Familiarity with CACREP accreditation standards is also required.
Licensure RequirementsThe candidate must hold a valid professional counseling license. If licensed in another state, the candidate must pursue licensure in Texas within the first year of employment.
Department OverviewThe Department of Counselor Education offers two master's degree programs: an M.A. in Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) and an M.Ed. in School Counseling, along with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and an undergraduate minor in Human Services. The department also operates the Jack Staggs Counseling Clinic, featuring fully equipped facilities on campus.
Courses are available on the main campus, at satellite locations, and online, ensuring accessibility for all students.
